Morning Time Ninja

Once again, Lorelei is up to mischief that Ashton never got into. The other day she got in big trouble. She was yelling at me, she was hitting me, she was a furious storm. So I put her in a big time out in her crib. She wanted her baby but I told her that she does not get anything in her bed when she needs to take a time out.

I'm standing in the hall when Connor comes up the stairs to ask what Lorelei did. While I was telling him that Lorelei was making bad decisions, who comes walking up behind Connor? Lorelei. She's strutting towards us like she's king of the forest, holding the baby I told she couldn't have and grinning like an evil villain straight out of a Disney movie. Oh, goody.

Three days later, I go into her room and wake her up. She's not yet ready to get out of bed, so I told her that I would go get her some clothes and then come back to get her. Her load of clean laundry was in my room, so I walked across the hall, started pulling clothes out of her basket, when I notice a small person standing next to me. She looks up at me and says, "I get out myself." I try to explain how mommy wants to help her out of her bed so that she doesn't fall and get hurt, but I can tell that I'm already losing the battle.

Again this morning she gets out of her bed. Ashton was in her room with her and yells, "Mom, she got out of her bed!" I go running up the stairs and she is already standing at the top. She says, "I do it myself." And let me explain how she talks. It's not, "I do it myself." It's said with 100% attitude. More like, "I do it my say-elf." I can only describe it like this: she's part Flint.

Even though I know it's encouraging her, I have to know how she does it. She's no bigger than a house cat, so how is she doing it? Plus, I wanted to take pictures. She's just as flexible and graceful as a cat and lands silently. I put her back in her crib and ask her to show me how she does it. She reenacts it as she describes the play-by-play:

"I put my foot like that...

...and then I slide down."

I've Got a Question

I just walked into the kitchen, where the children were eating breakfast. Lorelei looked at me and asked, "Are you a butt crack?" Oh the joy of the second child. They learn all sorts of wonderful things from the older (and wiser?) sibling.

I Need Pink

Lorelei is now asserting her passion for fashion even when I'm the one picking out her clothes. We were trying to get out the door this morning, and it was pretty chilly, so I went into her drawer to get out a pair of socks. I had one white sock in my hand and was looking for a match. Lorelei pushes her way between me and the drawer, shoves her tiny hand into the sock basket and says, "I need pink" and proceeds to hand me a pink sock. She walks away, leaving me to find the match.

The Next Day

The next day was filled with more birthday fun. Lorelei had a blast playing with all of her new gifts. She tried on all of her clothes. She is really into skirts right now and loved the one from Aunt Aimee.

She recieved two new purses and carried them both throughout the day.

Grandma & papa got her this new Hummer (it's red-just like grandmas!) See her ankle bracelets? She has been wearing them everyday since. She asks to have them on first thing in the morning.

Lorelei got a blanket made especially for her by Tia. The "sun" blanket got started with my brother, and all of the boys have them. Since Lorelei is a girl, Tia thought that a new pattern was in order. Lorelei got a "sun & moon" blanket and it is gorgeous!

I was the first born and never got one of these beauties, so I have put an order in for a queen size sun & moon blanket, but I won't hold my breath...

She is definitely a multitasker!

But putting on lipstick while talking on the phone is left for the amatures. Lorelei likes to chat up her friends while pushing the baby in the stroller and carrying her purse full of good things.

The picture from behind is just a bonus because that little hip stuck out while she's walking is precious!!!

Lorelei's 2nd Birthday

We celebrated Lorelei's birthday on Saturday with some close family and friends. Our theme was InStyle because of Lorelei's budding interest in clothes and accessories (see the last post for some pictures of our little fashionista). I wanted to post the "magazine covers" that I made to decorate with, but Blogger won't let me. There are 4 of them, each with a picture of her and one of her many "styles" and cover page titles with little bits of information about her: attitude, behavior, accomplishments.
Anyway, here's some pictures and commentary about her special day. There's a lot of pictures, and believe it or not, I really cut back on so many cute moments.

Lorelei is showing off her PB&J. This was her first time eating peanut butter and she liked it!

A new Ugly Doll!

She couldn't wait to get into this new purse filled with all kinds of purse-like goodies.

Worn out after ripping all of that wrapping paper, she sits down with her new baby for a rest.

A mommy to two new babies-she is very happy!!!

This was a celebration of all things fashionably Lorelei, so her cake had to match!

The second cake was an open magazie with a picture of the cover girl with a corresponding article. She even blew out the candles!

For being quite shy and very sereious, she did great at this party. I didn't expect her to open presents infront of everyone, but she dove right in. Everyone wore neclaces and jelly bracelets and headbands (though none of the guys got into the hair accessories); they were all so pretty. Thanks to everyone for participating.

And the call on the field stands

Lorelei is getting bigger and is always full of surprises. She is super silly and here she spent about 10 minutes one day just measuring her face.

Happy Halloween

Lorelei and Ashton picked out their pumpkins and brought them home for a family jack-o-lantern carving.
Lorelei is not grossed out by anything. Ashton has always been very careful about getting dirty and making a mess. Lorelei is quite the opposite. She dug right into that pumpkin.

She loved her pumpkin.

She loved it so much, that she ate its raw guts.

Lorelei was perfect as a lion. At the time, she was going to bed a 6 (at the latest!) and trick-or-treating didn't start until 6. She doen'ts like to miss her sleep and when she wants to go to bed, she wants to go to bed then. I hear that she gets that from her Aunt Aimee. So, she very appropriately growled in complaint at being kept up so late.

A Budding Fashionista

I haven't published the results of my recent study, but this is what I have found: the love for accessories- shoes, hats, purses, is hereditary. Lorelei spends most of her day taking her shoes on and off, carrying various items in a bag or purse (her current fave is a dinosaur inside a chihuahua purse), and finding things to put on her head.

This is her double-headband look, and below is the upsidedown headband.
Lorelei loves to wear hats. But what if your pressed for time, need to run out the door, and you can't find your favorite hat? No problem. Many household items can be sustituted, and often for the fraction of the price of designer accesories. Here, Lorelei threw on a pull-up. It's fast, keeps her ears warm, and is super absorbent.

I love boots, and so does my girl. She tried on my Doc Martins, but is much happier in her brothers snow boots.

Here's another fashion dilemna: What if you have misplaced you bag, such as the one you see above, but have too much stuff to simply carry? Here's the solution: Tuck in your shirt and cram everything right down into it. Lorelei loves this quick and easy "pocket." Plus, look how much you can fit!

Lorelei isn't a slave to just the latest fashion trends; she likes to develop her own style. This one-arm-out shirt has become a signature look for her.

This picture below is an urban take on the same look.

She also really likes the idea of overwear. That consists of wearing panties over the pants. This is expected to be a hot look and you will probably see this on the fall runways.

Are the contents of this shopping bag for her? I don't remember. But it doesn't matter if it is hers or if its even clothing. She will find a way to wear it.

Random Moments

Lorelei had her first cupcake on Valentine's Day. She really liked it.

She also enjoys pudding and cheetos.

Ashton is helping Lorelei learn to walk. I think that the wrong kid is wearing the helmet.

If confronted with a situation that she was not prepared for, she plays opposum. She puts her head down, or turns away, and does not move. She is the cutest damn opposum you'll ever see.

And some things never change. She still likes to get into the pantry and snack.

Hot Now

This picture was taken on Ashton's first day of school. He got to choose whatever he wanted for dinner. First he chose cantalope. Then he changed it to pizza, then McDonald's and then, as we were headed out the door, to donuts. The only place open at that time with killer donuts was Krispy Kreme. So, 20 miles later (as opposed to the 2 miled to McD's) we were at Krispy Kreme. And joy of joys they were hot! So, why is this on Lorelei's page and not Ashton's, you ask? Because this is Lorelei's very first time eating a donut at the Krispy Kreme. And for any of you fortunate people who have had the pleasure of eating a Krispy Kreme piece of heaven, then you know that this is, indeed, a special occasion.
